POBO / COBO

Collect or pay on behalf of your own customers

✅

What this does

You're a payment provider, a platform with merchants, or a marketplace. The people paying and being paid are your customers' — not you. TransFi tracks each of them separately so every payment is attributed to the right customer.

Two directions

Plain meaningExample
Collect on behalf (CoBo)You collect money that belongs to your merchantA marketplace collects from a buyer; the money is the seller's
Pay on behalf (PoBo)You pay someone on your customer's instructionA remittance provider pays your customer's family abroad

What's different

  • Each person is registered. Your customer's sender and recipient each get their own userId.
  • They are verified, not just you. A sender needs KYC or KYB before their money can move.
  • Senders and recipients stay within one customer. A sender under customer A can only pay recipients under customer A.

Set up

1. Register the sender

Fetch the required fields for their country first, then create.

curl -X POST 'https://sandbox-api.transfi.com/v3/senders/mandatory-fields' \
  -H 'Authorization: Basic YOUR_BASE64_CREDENTIALS' \
  -H 'mid: YOUR_MID' \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  -d '{ "country": "GB", "type": "individual", "currencyType": "fiat" }'

→ Get Sender Mandatory Fields · Create Individual Sender · Business Sender

2. Verify the sender

curl -X POST 'https://sandbox-api.transfi.com/v3/kyc/standard' \
  -H 'Authorization: Basic YOUR_BASE64_CREDENTIALS' \
  -H 'mid: YOUR_MID' \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  -d '{ "userId": "UX-250930071244903" }'

Send them to the URL in the response. Check status per role with KYC Account Status. → Standard KYC · Standard KYB

3. Register the recipient

→ Get Recipient Mandatory Fields · Create Individual Recipient

4. Give each merchant their own account number (CoBo)

curl -X POST 'https://sandbox-api.transfi.com/v3/iban' \
  -H 'Authorization: Basic YOUR_BASE64_CREDENTIALS' \
  -H 'mid: YOUR_MID' \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  -d '{
    "currency": "EUR",
    "customer": { "userId": "UX-250930072010418" }
  }'

Deposits into it are attributed to that merchant automatically. → Create Virtual IBAN

5. Move the money

Collections and payouts work exactly as in Collections and Payouts — the only difference is that the userId on the order is your customer's sender or recipient.

📘

A recipient who later needs to send is promoted, not recreated. → Change User Role
